Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Combining the stop-start rhythms of Helmet, the hip-hop assault of Rage Against the Machine and the brooding vocals of Faith No More, Bakersfield, California band Korn concocted a golden formula that would reanimate the dormant corpse of heavy metal. The band's self-titled debut is a teenage-fantasy-endorphin-rush--a subversive noisefest as angry and hostile as Slayer but with a propulsive groove perfect for skateboarding, vandalism, or jumping up and down until you're nauseous. Songs like "Blind," "Clown," and "Shoots and Ladders" blend dark, bleak riffs with head-spinning guitar effects and scream-and-response choruses. But even at their most vitriolic, Korn imbue their blustery music with a cathartic element of fun. --Jon Wiederhorn Spotlight Reviews and share your thoughts with other customers.

3 Words to all: ARE YOU READY!?, August 2, 2003
KoRn: 5/5 Best CD, disturbing and awesome lyrics and music. And the songs: 1)Blind: First the drums, then the guitars, then the bass, then finally: ARE YOU READY? A heavy intro, the best of all 5. The BEST song on here, Classic. 10/10 2)Ball Tongue: Gibberish on this song. Pretty cool. Not as good as Blind, but good. Very heavy 6/10 3)Need To: Much like Ball Tongue but without the gibberish. Not one of my favourites unfortunately. 3rd least favourite actually. 5/10 4)Clown: Before the song, a 45 second skit about how they should start the song, in the end they get to it. And it's so good, it's my 2nd favourite. No wonder this is one of the 5 major standouts. 10/10 5)Divine: A quick song, also the shortest, that's the only downfall, if it was longer, then it would be a 10. Oh well, it's still my 4th favourite. 9/10 6)Faget: Well, it ain't homophobic. About Jon Davis' life at school. Very heavy. My 7th favourite, Fake just beats it. 2nd longest. 8/10 7)Shoots & Ladders: A bagpipe solo, just one question, why must there be only one song that has bagpipes in it? Oh well, I just can't get enough of Shoots. Evil nursery rhymes and very heavy drumwork. My 3rd favourite. Not one swear word. 10/10 8)Predictable: Much like Need To, not one of my favourite's. They sound like Creed. And I'm just not very into it. 2nd least favourite. But anything by KoRn is good. 4/10 9)Fake: As I said in Faget, Fake is my 6th favourite song. Much like Limp Bizkit's Counterfeit. At least the same type of song, both about Fake's. This is very good. 8/10 10)Lies: This is it. The WORST song on here. Anything by KoRn is good though, it's better than some songs, better than any of the interludes on Issues. That's it. 3/10 11)Helmet In The Bush: Pretty good. Sets the tone for Daddy. Although it's weak, it's got really good bass and guitar lines. Mostly whispering, and about Jon's Speed addiction. 7/10 12)Daddy: My 5th favourite. About Jon getting raped by his father. Can't exactly say the rest. At the end, Jon ends up crying for 3 minutes, then ends with an argument about car parts. An emotional song that can never be replaced. 9/10 That's the review. Probably best debut ever., November 8, 2000
KoRn will also be known as the band with all members that would be classified as one of the best of their instrument. Atleast in my book. Jonathan Davis is a brood vocalist that isn't afraid to share his ammotions. Munky and Head aka Brian are great guitarists because they stand out and do neat things with their guitars. Fiedly always adds that funky bass line. and Dave is never off-beat. As for the songs go, "Blind" is a good opening song... for the whole career of the band infact with its choppiness. "Faget" is a song that kind of shows what I am going through right now. "Shoots and Ladders" is a good but bizzare song about nursery rhymes. The closing song "Daddy" is where Davis shows his true ammotions. About his mother beating and raping him. Its a pretty sad song. It was most depressing when he started crying, which goes on for another two in a half minutes. Then, a secret track comes up. Its Jonathan Davis's parents fighting about something. I don't know what. But to sum it up, this is a great debut and is a reccomended buy over a lot of things.

as for the cd. defiantly not their best in my opinion. issues seems to be the only stand out of the bunch. follow the leader is alright also, but it's a little too crazy for me. i'd but korn third on the album list then untouchables then life is peachy then the new one which is a piece of crap. I like issues the most because it has the most rythm and best vocal work. on this album i enjoy blind, clown, and daddy. Was this review helpful to you? ()
Nick Nack Patty-Wack Give KORN a bone!, September 12, 2004
1. Blind - Well-known song. Not one of my personal favorites, but still good! 2. Ball Tongue - This song is psychotic, in a good way! The chorus is so strange. I love this song. 3. Need To - Great song. I just like the song, it has good music. 4. Clown - My favorite songs ever. The argument at the beginning is funny, and it has great music and great lyrics. 5. Divine - Another great song. I like the music, it all just goes together nicely. 6. Faget - Probably my second favorite song. I love to the point to the song, most people can relate to it, and it's just a good song. 7. Shoots And Ladders - I love this song, I don't know why. It has nursery rhymes in it, but it's stating the cruel meaning behind them. Just a good song, nice intro. The stuff that sounds like scat in the background of the chorus is actually Jon saying 'This is madness' played backwards. 8. Predictable - Not one of the best, but it's a good song. 9. Fake - Okay song. It's not bad, but out of all it's probably the worst one. 10. Lies - I don't really like this song, but it's okay. 11. Helmet In The Bush - I like this song. It sounds kinda creepy, though. 12. Daddy - This is a deep, sad song. It sounds like it's about one of his parents raping him, but it's actually about his neighbor raping him and his parents not believing him. I really like this song. Its sad when Jon starts crying, though. Well there's my review. This is definately one of the best KoRn albums ever, might even by my favorite. This is a great album for anyone!
